Giving Is Awesome

Photography Give Away

You know someone.

You know someone who's experienced a tragedy, is struggling to stay afloat, is raising kids while holding down more than one job, or is volunteering selflessly despite extenuating personal circumstances.

You know someone who can't afford custom photography, but who would cherish it this holiday season. You know someone who deserves a year-round reminder of their family's spirit, love, and beauty.

You know someone. I guarantee it.

I want to know who they are, and I want to give them the chance to experience complimentary custom photography -- $1000 worth, to be exact. Whether it's canvas or albums, prints for Grandma, or a slideshow to watch over and over, it's in your power to give them the artwork they deserve this holiday season.

Oh, and the best part? The person who nominates the winner receives a $250 credit. What better reason to show some love could there possibly be?

The rules:
* You cannot nominate yourself, and the person nominated must sincerely be incapable of purchasing my services. (Being unable to make mortgage payments for a two-million-dollar-vacation-home in Paris does not qualify as sincere financial need.)
* The nominee must reside in Hampton Roads. Tell me who you know, what they're experiencing, and why they deserve my artwork. Please include a way to contact both your nominee and yourself as well.

* You must e-mail me the full story : info@jessicariehl.com by midnight on Christmas Eve.  The winner will be announced on Christmas Day -- get nominating! I can't wait to read all of your entries! Open your heart to someone this holiday season -- and thanks for giving me the opportunity to open mine.

Currently photographers around the country have donated over $500,000 worth of sessions and products! To read more about the Giving Is Awesome campaign check this link: Giving Is Awesome

With love,
Jessica

P.S. Deadline is Christmas Eve.

Turks and Caicos

Right after my husband came home from his six month school in Rhode Island we headed down to Turks and Caicos located in the British West Indies. Jim did not know where he was going until the day before we went, enough time so he can decide what to pack. Jim went diving for five days and I did absolutely nothing except catch up on a stack of books I've been wanting to read.

I did all the things I love to do...eat, sleep, read, swim, photograph, dig my toes in the sand and just be still.  I loved staring at that beautiful blue water, it was unbelievable.

Here are just a few of my photos from the trip.

Cheers,
Jessica

Mr. Adorable

Isn't Thomas adorable?  I have been photographing Thomas since he was two weeks old and I couldn't believe today how much he has grown!  Today was all about running...though we did a have a few moments of stillness to contemplate the fall leaves.  I did receive some amazing hugs and kisses from Thomas and I am head over heals in love.  I even received an open mouth kiss with some teeth and a burp. I love my job!

You may or may not know that Thomas is the son of my associate, Ryall.  She is an amazing asset to my business and has allowed me to focus on the art of my photography and give you imagery you will truly cherish forever. I am so grateful she and her beautiful family are in my life.  She is definitely a vital part of the JRP team and a dear friend.

Cheers,
Jessica

A Rocking Downtown Norfolk Session

This was an awesome session with the crazy Milton Family!  They love the camera and we had so much fun walking around downtown Norfolk with their beautiful Airedale, who's name has been sent to the back of my brain.

My favorite part of this session was when the kids starting singing "Mommy and Daddy were sitting in a tree k-i-s-s-i-n-g..." They were singing at the top of their lungs and I almost fell over laughing because they had their own version that included having them and some other interesting stuff I can't remember.

I have many favorites from this session, but one image that just makes me smile is over their puppy with his head turned away from me. He refused to look at me for a few moments, like he knew he was a rock star and I had to wait for just the right moment to photograph him.

Enjoy!
Jessica

The Bradleys

Oh, what a marvelous family the Bradleys are. I loved photographing them, though I think we chose a rather cold and windy day, but who noticed?  These kids are so wonderful, they love each other and were happy to be photographed together.

We went out to First Landing State Park and had the beach almost completely to our sleves to enjoy this little bit of time together.  This session was so much fun and with so many awesome personalities, how could I help but to fall in love?

Cheers,
Jessica

The Fab Wedding Of Dottie and Ryan

A couple of weeks ago, I photographed the wedding of the fabulous Dottie and Ryan. They were a ton of fun hamming it up for the camera.  Once again, I was honored to photograph a couple full of personality and spunk.  I should say spice, since they walked down the aisle after the ceremony grooving to I Feel Good by James Brown.  They also had one of those amazing hollywood kisses...should have been in the movies, I tell ya! The kind that gives you goose bumps and makes you reach for your spouse's hand, cause you know it is meant to be.  And, they aren't scared to show it!

Enough said...

Cheers,
Jess

P.S. I forgot...they sang Karoke to each other at the wedding!

Anastasia...

Meet Anastasia. She lives just outside of Boston with the world's largest cat. Ever. She can barely pick him up and I had to make sure I had a good hold on him before I received my cuddle.  His head is not too much smaller than her head and he is ultra sweet.

But, more about this beautiful little girl. Anastasia is one of my favorite girls to photograph, she loves the camera and has her own ideas about what we should do.  She has an amazing backyard and when I arrived she already had her art easel and chair set up and was just waiting to bring me into her world.    She also picked out her own clothes and gave me her best America's next top model looks. Anastasia is a half princess and half tomboy and with a pinch of silliness and a dollop of sweetness.

Until we meet again fair princess....

Love,
Jess

Jeff and Ann-Marie

Jeff and Ann-Marie tied the knot two weekends ago at a fabulously casual wedding on the sound in Duck, North Carolina. I introduced you to Jeff and Ann-Marie in August when we did their engagement session in Hampton, Virginia.

Jeff and Ann-Marie brought their own special talents to make the wedding so special. Jeff made the cheesecakes, which were to die for and Ann-Marie arranged all of the flowers. She received a special gift from her uncle who is an orchid grower in Florida...90 orchids. They were everywhere and in every color, it was like being transported to a tropical paradise.  I even got to bring a couple home ;)

I am a sucker for all things old and that have a special meaning, so I have to tell you about Ann-Marie's dress, it is over 100 years old and was made by one of the women in her family.  It was gorgeous, so detailed and it is made of linen.  She looked amazing in it and I think it suited her so perfectly.  Her wedding band was made from a ring that Jeff's grandmother wore and Jeff's mother now has part of.

Jeff and Ann-Marie, thank you for allowing me to celebrate your wedding with you.  You will have an amazing life together.

Cheers,
Jess
